I instantly fell in love with Laura and Brendan’s rustic woodland themed wedding when The Carriage Rooms at Montalto sent me a little sneak peak of their photos, I couldn’t wait to tell you all about it. When I got the full wedding over from their super talented photographer Peter MacKey, I was even more excited.
I knew their wedding was awesome, but I almost couldn’t believe it when I found out that Laura made so much of it by herself. What a talented cookie she is! They even made their own wedding rings with the help of Sarah McAleer Jewellery Smith.
Sarah also restrung Laura’s gran’s pearl necklace to make a beautiful bridal bracelet.
Laura and Brendan went for a loose Woodland themed wedding, but they say that the decor was dictated by what they, and the bridal party, could DIY.
Laura looked beautiful in her stunning Claire Pettibone dress from Ivory and Pearl Bridal Boutique with customised Dessy pumps (she changed in to comfy glittery Converse later in the day). I absolutely love her dress and don’t think I’ve ever seen anything quite like it.
Her hair was styled by Gigi Hair Graduates with the cute little flowers made by Laura who also did her own makeup.
Although it’s traditional to get married at the bride’s parish, they picked the grooms local parish which is a beautiful intimate little church overlooking the bay as Brendan’s parents and 5 out of 6 of his siblings had been married there.
After they tied the knot they headed over to a barley field on Brendan’s family farm for some photographs. They didn’t let the rain spoil their day, it just gave them an excuse to get some photos with a super cute umbrella. 🙂
Their reception was held in the amazing The Carriage Rooms at Montalto.
“We knew we wanted a rustic venue somewhere a little untraditional. We looked at quite a few places but with Brendan being one of 7 many couldn’t accommodate are huge numbers. We loved The Carriage Rooms straight away it had the rustic charm we were looking for with the amazing bare brick walls but was much more elegant than anywhere else we’d viewed.” Laura
The bunting they used to decorate the venue was made from fat quarters Laura’s Mum had saved for a patchwork quilt she had never finished. Laura and Bridesmaid Andrea cut out all the triangles and her Mum sewed all 150m of it together. So cute!
The table decorations were made by Laura. She also made yummy looking cookie mix favours with the help of her friends Aimie and Andrea.
When I asked Laura what her favourite part of the day was, she said:
“It’s tricky to pick just one but it was pretty awesome to be introduced as Mr and Mrs McClean for the first time and walk up through the tables filled with friends and family. It was nice nipping out to get pictures at the lake too to get a few moments to ourselves.”
Laura also made the delicious looking cakes which matched their woodland themed wedding perfectly. Can you spot the little lego bride and groom?
So, what advice would Laura give to couples planning their wedding?
“If your not usually into DIY start small making 100 identical invites could drive even a hardened crafter mad!
Have your wedding your way and enjoy every minute investing in a great photographer and videographer to preserve all those memories and don’t get hung up on the weather my child of Prague didn’t work but we didn’t let it ruin the day!”
